Primary School | Dr. Antonio da Silva Trust

Welcome to Dr. Antonio Da Silva Primary School

The school was founded in 1868 by Rev. John Braz Fernandes,( Vicar of the Church of Our Lady of Salvation,Dadar) and was then known as St.John’s School. In 1875, Dr. Antonio da Silva of Dadar through the good offices of Rev. John.B.Fernandes, left by his will the bulk of his estate for the foundation of a high school. The school then came to be known by its present name. In June 1963, the Technical stream was shifted to a new building at Veer Savarkar Marg, Dadar.

“The hero is the one who kindles a great light into the world, who sets up blazing torches in the dark streets of life for men to see by. The saint  is the man who walks through the dark paths of the world, himself a light.”

As i sat down a few months ago to pen a few thoughts on the topic “Light” – the theme chosen for this year’s Annual Awards Day – I was surprised then determined that Diwali being the Festival of Lights, this theme was perfect. My wonderful staff of teachers worked meticulously, training the students for the awards function. When some of my teachers struck on the idea of having a fashion show, it just meant that we could work toward showcasing this theme through the feature “Frieze Frames”. The idea was welcomed and when we actually began to pen down the frames, we realized the different forms of light that could brighten up our paths. We chose a few and left many more to be picked up further down the lane. The day being done and all being praised for the wonderful ideas, creativity and team work, i began to wonder ” Were our efforts fruitful? Were they worth it?” And the answer cam loud and clear “Yes!Yes!Yes!”
As educators and nurturers of the young minds under our care, such messages are vital, especially in today’s world with all its evolving challenges. Knowing the importance of the different lights in our life – those of knowledge, family, friendship, peace, unity, truth – is an essential element in the developmental process. It is a message not only for children but for everyone.
For in the end, knowing inspires us to make the move toward becoming the hero who brings us to help others. And once there, we can aspire to be like the saint who is the light.
