About the Institution
The school was founded in 1868 by Rev. John Braz Fernandes, (Vicar of the Church of Our Lady of Salvation, Dadar) and was then known as St. John’s School. In 1875, Dr. Antonio da Silva of Dadar through the good offices of Rev. John B. Fernandes, left by his will the bulk of his estate for the foundation of a high school. The school then came to be known by its present name. In June 1963, the Technical stream was shifted to a new building at Veer Savarkar Marg, Dadar. In 1978, the Junior College of Commerce was started. The school is a Catholic, minority institution, administered by a Catholic Trust. The school is an English medium institution affiliated to the Archdiocesan Board of Education and prepares pupils for the Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSC). The school is aided by the government.
About the Technical School
The First Year Junior College classes, Science with Biology stream and Science with Technical stream, were started in July 1975. Two Vocational Courses viz., Electrical Maintenance and Scooter and Motor Cycle Servicing were started at the Junior College level in September 1978 and Mechanical Maintenance course from June 1986 (in place of Science with Technical course). This Institution is thus a full fledged Junior College with Science and Vocational Streams and is now called Dr. Antonio da
Silva Technical High School and Junior College.
Students are admitted to this Institution in the Eighth and Eleventh (F.Y.J.C.) standards. Admissions to Std. VIII commence during the first week of May, as soon as Std. VII results are declared. Admissions to F.Y.J.C. Classes commence soon after the declaration of S.S.C. Examination results. Students should submit the application for admission to F.Y.J.C. class within three days of the declaration of S.S.C. results.
The medium of Instruction is English. The Institution is recognised and aided by the Directorate of Vocational Education and
Training, Maharashtra State and prepares pupils for the Secondary School Certificate Examination (with technical subjects) and Higher Secondary Certificate Examination (with pure science / vocational science subjects) of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education.
